Science North’s travelling exhibit called the Great Northern Ontario Roadshow earned accolades this month from the Canadian Association of Science Centres’ CASCADE Awards.
Hosted annually and this year virtually, the awards highlight the ways Canadian science centres and museums “represent the diversity of the Canadian population within its workforce and its audiences,” a news release stated.
On Oct. 13, the exhibit was honoured in the Institutional category.
The Greater Northern Ontario Roadshow travelled to more than 50 communities across Northern Ontario. Created and produced by Science North, the aim of the exhibit was “to re-energize the economy and support job creation by reinvigorating the Northern Ontario tourism industry,” the news release states.
“The Roadshow is a ‘staycation’ expo that hosts a free attraction showcase in communities where residents can experience local culture, science, heritage, culinary arts, and more.”
By year’s end, Science North hopes 70,000 people will have experienced the Great Northern Ontario Roadshow.
“The success of The Great Northern Ontario Roadshow is a testament to our dedication to the Northern Ontario community,” said Science North CEO Ashley Larose. “The Roadshow has provided communities with a multitude of opportunities to reconnect with each other while encouraging a resurgence in ‘home-grown’ tourism. Over the past year we have been thrilled to offer this unique experience that supports and promotes economic growth across the North.”
