FORT FRANCES — The operator of hospitals in Fort Frances, Rainy River and Emo has launched new “focused fundraising efforts aimed at advancing and expanding the future of health care across the Rainy River District.”

Instead of the Riverside Foundation for Health Care fundraising for Riverside Health Care, the organization has hired its own fundraising director and “will raise funds through specific projects and targeted campaigns,” said a news release.

“This is a very exciting chapter for Riverside Health Care, and I am so grateful to embark on it with them,” Holly Kaemingh, Riverside’s new director of fundraising, is quoted as saying in the release.

“I am passionate about building connections within our community and look forward to working together to raise funds to enhance our health-care services across the Rainy River District.

“Looking ahead, we are excited to plan fundraising events that will bring our community together in support of Riverside Health Care. Whether you're purchasing a raffle ticket, attending an event, or becoming a sponsor, your support makes a direct impact.”

Kaemingh told Newswatch that, as with the foundation, donors will be issued tax receipts for income tax purposes.

The local business community will play an important role, she said.

“We have a great local business community that has been very generous and involved in giving back to the community,” she said in an email to Newswatch.

“We're excited to build deeper relationships with them moving forward to build a healthier future for our communities.”

The news release said Riverside will soon “roll out our Diagnostic Imaging Campaign, which will include the addition of an MRI at La Verendrye General Hospital (in Fort Frances).”

Besides the La Verendrye hospital, Riverside Health Care operates Rainy River Health Centre, Emo Health Centre and other facilities serving the Rainy River district’s more than 20,000 people.

Riverside Health Care ended its fundraising partnership with the Riverside Foundation a few weeks ago. The foundation’s offices have closed, but its board chair has told Newswatch the board is considering how to carry on its work for the community.
