RIDE check leads to impaired driving charges

A Keewatin man, 41, faces multiple charges in April 21 incident.

KENORA – A 41-year-old Keewatin man picked the wrong time to drive while impaired.

Ontario Provincial Police said they were conducting a RIDE program on April 21 and at about 3 p.m. pulled over a motorist on Norman Drive, in Norman.

The driver was put through mandatory alcohol screening, leading to a number of charges.

The man was charged with operation while impaired, alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and will be back in court in Kenora on May 22.
