Residents reminded to clean smoke alarms

As in many other communities within the region, many residents are taking time to start spring cleaning of their homes. As part of that activity, the Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service wishes to remind residents to not forget to clean their smoke alarms as well.

FORT FRANCES—With Spring cleaning on the minds of many, the Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service, is reminding residents to also take the time to clean their smoke alarms.

They recently launched their, “Service Safety Share Spring is Here” initiative and see this as an opportune time to make sure that you clean smoke alarms. In that way, you help your smoke alarms remain sensitive and ready to protect you and your family.

The process for cleaning seems simple, as they suggest you clean your smoke alarm regularly just by using a vacuum cleaner and gently vacuuming the outside of the alarms to remove any dust, or cobweb build up.

In their view, cleaning can be possible, “at a minimum when you change your clocks in the spring and fall.” FFFR suggests that if your smoke alarm is located in an area that produces high levels of dust particles, like in workshops for example, then the cleaning should be more frequent.
