Residents of Ignace learn about Nuclear Waste and Management

The safe containment and isolation of used nuclear fuel has been a topic of discussion by government and local residents alike. The municipality of Ignace took part in an information session organized and presented by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, to offer a forum for discussion about this topic.

Ignace—The Township of Ignace held a Nuclear Waste and Management information session on Thursday, March 23, at Ignace Learn More Centre, from 12 p.m.-7 p.m.

Hosted by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, a non-profit organization implementing “Canada’s plan to safely contain and isolate used nuclear fuel inside a deep geological respiratory, in a way that protects people and the environment for generations to come”.

This plan is said to only proceed in an area with “informed and willing hosts where the municipality, First Nation and Metis Communities, and others in the area, are working together to implement it”.

Safe containment and isolation of used nuclear fuel is a topic that became the focus of this gathering at the newly opened Ignace Learn More Centre.
