Repeat offender nabbed with weapons charges

An OPP RIDE check has resulted in a repeat offender charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

FORT FRANCES – Rainy River OPP was conducting a RIDE check on Highway 11/71 in the Alberton Township when just before midnight officers observed a vehicle with open liquor and cannabis inside.

According to the OPP, officers searched the vehicle and discovered that the passenger had imitation brass knuckles and an imitation handgun.

Upon further investigation, the passenger had outstanding weapon charges and was wanted by the Fort Frances OPP on two warrants. 

As a result, the 21-year-old from Devlin was placed under arrest and charged with one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and one count of possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused is being held for bail and will appear in court later today.

The driver received an offence notice for having cannabis readily available.
