REDDITT — The unincorporated community of Redditt in the Kenora district has received a $180,000 grant from the Ontario government through Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
In the 2021 Census, Redditt had a population of 139 living in 76 of its 170 total private dwellings.
“The Redditt Fire Department is pleased to have received this grant from the Northern Ontario Heritage Foundation Corporation. It will allow our community to refurbish and upgrade our Fire Hall which will extend its service life and increase efficiencies to the operations of our fire department,” said Richard Hunt, Redditt Fire Chief. “
According to the Ontario government’s release, the Local Services Board of Redditt will use the funding to modernize the fire hall by making safety updates to the office space, refurbishing the washroom, renovating the roof and truck bays, and improving interior and exterior lighting.
“A modern, well-functioning fire hall is key to helping firefighters provide first-rate emergency response services,” said Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development. “NOHFC funding will increase the efficiency and service life of the fire hall and support the safety and well-being of our northern communities.”
