SIOUX LOOKOUT – To rise awareness about the dangers of railway crossing and trespassing on rail property, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has issued a proclamation dedicating the week of Sept. 19 to Sept. 25 Rail Safety Week.
“It is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’ awareness of the dangers of ignoring safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property to reduce avoidable deaths, injuries, and damage caused by incidents involving trains and citizens,” wrote Mayor Doug Lawrance in his address.
The municipality will be working with Operation Lifesaver, an advocacy group that specializes in public education regarding railway safety, which includes safety presentations to schools, youth clubs, driver associations, snowmobile and ATV clubs and other organized community groups, according to their mission statement.
