FORT FRANCES — The process is underway to fill a judicial vacancy in Fort Frances.

The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is accepting applications for the positon, which would be based in Fort Frances.

The posting said the judge would preside over both criminal law and family court, though about 75 per cent of the role would be involved in criminal matters. The position also includes extensive travel within regional boundaries and elsewhere in the province, according to the posting.

The minimum requirement to be appointed as an Ontario Court Justice is 10 years experience as a lawyer.

The Rainy River District Law Association said there has not been a sitting judge in Fort Frances since 2012.

Applications are open until Jan. 6, 2023.
