Police lay murder charge in Seine River death

Police have arrested a suspect, who has been remanded into custody pending a May 7 court appearance.

FORT FRANCES – A murder charge has been laid in connection with a homicide in Seine River First Nation.

Ontario Provincial Police, in conjunction with Treaty Three Police Service, have laid a second-degree murder charge in relation to the incident, which took place on April 18.

Police have not identified either the victim or the accused, only saying the latter has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.

The investigation is being conducted with the OPP’s criminal investigation branch, the office of the chief coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Police say there is no threat to public safety at this time.
