KITCHENUHMAYKOOSIB INNINUWUG FIRST NATION, ON — Members of the KI First Nation Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police have issued a public safety warning to residents.
They are concerned about a possible supply of contaminated cocaine.
The warning was issued Monday after a recent overdose case in the fly-in community located 580 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
So far, one individual has had to be flown out to medical assistance following a reaction to cocaine.
Police said they are continuing to investigate, but have not yet identified the source of the drugs.
The advisory cautioned residents that there is an increased risk of substance users suffering serious injury or death from the drugs that are currently being circulated.
"Should you choose to continue using illicit substances, please ensure you take additional safety precautions including having an adequate supply of naloxone on hand, and someone responsible around who can use it and call out for additional assistance," the notice stated.
