DRYDEN — One person faces a murder charge after the death of a 20-year-old.
Provincial police said officers responded to an incident on King Street in Dryden on Thursday morning.
One person was found with life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. Police have identified the victim as Cypress Lawson.
Police said 23-year-old Samuel Shmanka was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Shmanka is in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Kenora court next week.
The investigation remains ongoing, and a post-mortem is expected to be conducted in Toronto at a later date.
Police had previously said they were responding to a "serious incident." In the update, police said investigators do not believe there is a threat to public safety but a large police presence is expected in the area.
