Police investigate suspicious death in Red Lake

The 40-year-old woman was transported to hospital on May 6, in 'life threatening condition', say police. She died there eight days later.

RED LAKE — Police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman who was pronounced dead on May 14.

The Ontario Provincial Police identified the woman as Myrna Mason of Red Lake in a news release issued Wednesday evening.

Mason was taken to hospital after officers began investigating an incident on May 6, according to police, who describe her condition at the time as life threatening. She was pronounced dead there eight days later.

Mason's death is considered suspicious by police.

Officers with the OPP North West crime unit are leading the investigation under the direction of the criminal investigation branch and with assistance from OPP forensic identification services.

The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved in the investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information relevant to the investigation contact the Red Lake OPP or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
