PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION — Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the tragic death of an infant from Pikangikum First Nation.
In a statement Tuesday evening, OPP said the child passed away Sunday, May 4 in a Winnipeg hospital.
Police disclosed that they initially responded on April 30 to a report of an incident that saw the infant taken to a local clinic in medical distress, and subsequently transported to Winnipeg.
A post mortem examination will be conducted at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre at a later date.
The investigation is being conducted by the OPP's criminal investigation branch in conjunction with the office of Manitoba's chief medical examiner.
