Police call for witnesses in KI hit-and-run that sent victim to hospital

Police are appealing to the public for assistance as they investigate a hit-and-run in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug that resulted in hospitalization.

Police are seeking public assistance in an investigation into a hit-and-run that sent a pedestrian to hospital in Kitchenuhamaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) First Nation.

An adult walking along Shebesheek Road in the Far North community, also known as Big Trout Lake, was hit from behind by a driver in a black pickup truck around 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, according to police.

The victim was airlifted out of the community for medical treatment, according to a release from the Ontario Provincial Police.

The OPP and the Kitchenuhamaykoosib Inninuwug Police are calling for anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact their local band council or police service, or submit tips anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Both police forces continue to actively investigate the occurrence.
