UPSALA — Crafts, yummy eats and baseball will converge on Saturday, Aug. 17, in this small community on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The Upsala Market and the second day of Upsala’s annual baseball tournament are both set for that date in the “small but mighty community that has a deep history of a love for baseball,” Upsala recreation administrator Jenny Veal said Wednesday.
Upsala’s recreation and community sports centre board is organizing the market with the Upsala Volunteer Home Support Association, she said.
The market at the Upsala Health Centre will give folks “an opportunity to sell flea market and yard sale items, homemade goodies, baking and hopefully some local produce if the gardens are producing,” she added.
Veal said the market, held two or more times every year in the unincorporated community north of Lac des Mille Lacs, is a regional phenomenon.
“We have folks come in from the Ignace area,” she said, “and a lot of folks that just live between Thunder Bay and Upsala will come in and set up a table.
“We just put the call out for vendors in the last couple of weeks, and we’re up to about 10 tables booked.”
Vendor spots in the market are available – and free, Veal added.

The baseball tourney, with a team registration fee of $350, is set for Aug. 16-18. Call or text Rob at 807-628-7449 for more information.
