RED LAKE, ON — A passenger faces multiple charges after an incident late Monday on a Wasaya Airways flight that had left Sioux Lookout bound for Pikangikum.

Ontario Provincial Police say the plane had to be diverted to Red Lake when an individual became unruly.

According to police, the man physically assaulted other passengers, refused to follow directions from the crew, and endangered the safety of the aircraft.

One of the pilots, along with some passengers, restrained and subdued the accused until the plane landed and was met by police.

A 33-year-old Pikangikum man is charged with assault, assaulting a peace officer and resisting police.

OPP say he suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation on the aircraft, and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
