Environment Canada has issued winter storm and snowfall warnings for several areas in region.
A developing low-pressure system with heavy blowing snow is expected to hit Thursday morning and last into Friday, with up to 25 centimetres possible for the hardest hit areas including Fort Frances, Rainy River, Emo, and Sioux Narrows-Nestora Falls.
Other areas, including Kenora, Dryden, Ignace, and Vermilion Bay, could see 15 cm of snow. The Sioux Lookout area is forecasted to receive up to 12 cm.
Environment Canada is warning of strong gusts of wind leading to reduced visibility. The heaviest snow is expected to fall Thursday evening; however, motorists should use extreme caution during their commute.
Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult; therefore, consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
