Pair arrested amid drug trafficking investigation

A search warrant has resulted in the arrest of two individuals.

FORT FRANCES – A pair of Winnipeg residents have been arrested following a late morning search warrant.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, members of the North West Region Emergency Response Team, North West Region Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and the Fort Frances Community Street Crime Unit executed a warrant to search on Friday at 11:19 a.m. at a business on the 100 block of Kings Highway 11.

As a result of the investigation, Byron DIGNARD, 36, of Winnipeg has been charged with

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Three counts of failure to comply with release order - other than attend court
     

Police also arrested and charged Cara HALL, 41, of Winnipeg with

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Both suspects were held in custody and appeared in court in Fort Frances on April 4.
