ATIKOKAN, Ont. — The Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police is congratulating the officers involved in the recent seizure of a large quantity of firearms in Atikokan.

Thomas Carrique tweeted a photo of the seized guns and called it the result of "excellent teamwork" by members of various sections of the OPP.

He said more than 70 firearms, 91 kilos of ammunition, and body armour were seized in an investigation that led to the arrest of a 53- year-old Atikokan resident.

The details of the seized items were not initially revealed in a news release issued by the OPP on Monday.

The accused man is also charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, transfer of a restricted or prohibited firearm without authority, and administering a noxious substance with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm.

An OPP spokesperson said Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing, and that additional charges are pending in connection with the case.
