OPP shoot and kill man armed with knife

Incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Wapekeka First Nation.

WAPEKEKA FIRST NATION — The province's Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an OPP officer shot and killed an individual armed with a knife in Wapekeka First Nation, 

According to the SIU, on Thursday, at about 12 p.m., police interacted with the individual and the officer discharged their firearm. 

The armed individual was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The OPP informed the SIU and as a result, cannot provide any further information. 

Police have not identified the deceased individual or the officer involved. 

The police watchdog is brought in to investigate anytime there is a serious injury or a fatality involving police.
