OPP releases a staggering number of traffic-related charges

NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – Over the Labour Day long week, the Ontario Provincial Police had their work cut out for them.

According to Provincial Constable Brittany Bembeneck, across the northwest region, police issued 769 speeding tickets, 26 seatbelt charges, 21 distracted driving charges, and nine impaired driving charges.

The OPP would like to remind everyone that operating a motor vehicle, whether it is an on-road or off-road vehicle, can result in serious injury to the public and the driver.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to five fatalities across the province over the Labour Day long weekend. Each was killed in separate incidents involving a motor vehicle driver, a motorcyclist, an off-road vehicle driver, a kayaker and a motorized vessel passenger.
