OPP officer involved in near miss collision with oncoming vehicle

Winnipeg commercial driver crossed the centre line, forcing the officer to swerve to avoid a serious crash.

THUNDER BAY – An OPP officer is Watten Township narrowly escaped potential serious injury when his police cruiser was clipped by a commercial motor vehicle that crossed the centre line.

According to a release issued on Friday by Rainy River District Detatchment OPP, the officer was travelling on Highway 11 at about 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday when he was forced to swerve out of the way of the oncoming truck. The mirror of the cruiser was damaged during the incident.

A 40-year-old Winnipeg driver faces charges of careless driving and driving to the left of the centre.
