RAINY RIVER DISTRICT – According to OPP Northwest Region, on the afternoon of June 29 officers with the Atikokan detachment responded to a call for service regarding an intoxicated driver on a motorized scooter.

Police found the 68-year-old resident and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver refused to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and police placed the individual under arrest.

The driver of the motorized scooter was charged with Failure to Comply with Demand.

The 68-year-old is scheduled to appear in court in August.

Meanwhile, in Fort Frances, officers were patrolling the Rainy Lake when they encountered a vessel and initiated a fishery inspection.

Officers found alcohol and instructed the driver to provide a breath sample.

The 54-year-old from Fort Frances failed the ASD with a blood alcohol level of 80 plus.

The individual was arrested and charged with impaired driving, as well as possessing a prohibited fish and operating a pleasure craft without safety equipment.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in July.
