OPP lays numerous weapons charges after stand-off

OPP lays charges on a Red Lake individual who had barricaded themselves inside a cabin.

RED LAKE — After a long stand-off with the OPP, officers with the Red Lake OPP Detachment have laid numerous charges against the individual who had barricaded themselves inside a cabin at Sportsman's Lodge on Little Vermillion Lake on July 29, according to OPP Northwest Region.

Just before 2 p.m., the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Crisis Negotiators, and the Red Lake Detachment Crime Unit safely arrested the individual, who was transported to the hospital for further assessment.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old from Red Lake was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon, breaking and entering, reckless discharge of a firearm, mischief, and pointing a firearm.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the court at a later date.
