OPP lay multiple assault charges against Dryden resident

Charges include sexual assault, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

DRYDEN — A Dryden resident faces multiple assault charges after an incident that occurred in the city on the weekend.

According to OPP, police and paramedics responded to a reported assault early Saturday morning, and found a person who'd suffered serious injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital.

Shortly after, officers located a suspect and placed the individual under arrest.

During the arrest and detention, the suspect became combative, causing minor injuries to officers.

The 19-year-old is now charged with:

  • aggravated sexual assault
  • assault with a weapon
  • aggravated assault
  • assaulting a peace officer (five counts)
  • resisting a peace officer
  • failure to comply with a probation order

The accused is being held in custody pending a court appearance in Kenora.

The individual's name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
