DRYDEN — Ontario Provincial Police are recommending extreme caution when using ice roads in the Northwest region at this time of year.
Police issued a public safety notice Tuesday, saying residents and visitors need to be careful because weather conditions have made the stability of the ice unpredictable.
"Due to fluctuating temperatures, ice conditions can deteriorate rapidly, posing a significant risk to vehicles and individuals," the advisory stated.
It warned about the increasing likelihood of vehicles breaking through into the water.
"If you must use these ice roads, please take necessary precautions, remain vigilant, and monitor local ice conditions regularly," police recommended.
