ATIKOKAN — Provincial police have started an investigation into social media that have made young people in the community targets of harassment and bullying.

In a Thursday news release, police said they received reports of the social media pages beginning last week on June 16.

Police said the posts have been captured and they are working to identify those responsible for their creation.

"If history has taught us anything it's that cyber bullying can have serious effects on the wellbeing of young people," police said in a news release. "Offences include criminal harassment, defamatory libel, public incitement of hatred, mischief, and harassing communications.
