OPP find suspected narcotics, stolen road signs in Fort Frances traffic stop

FORT FRANCES — Three people were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of stolen road signs.

Provincial police in Fort Frances pulled over a vehicle driving without lights on Kings Highway during the early morning hours of Thursday.

Officers found the driver had a suspended licence, and was also determined to be impaired. The driver refused to take a roadside test and was placed under arrest.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to officers finding suspected narcotics and stolen road signs.

Two passengers were also arrested, with one providing police with a fake identity.

The driver, a 20-year-old from Fort Frances, is charged with failure to comply and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. A 24-year-old from Fort Frances is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and personation with intent. A 20-year-old woman from Couchiching First Nation is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Police said they are awaiting results of a toxicology test of the narcotics before further charges may be laid.
