KENORA — The Rainy River detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have taken eight people into custody for either failing to abide by the terms of their release or on outstanding warrants.

Police, in a release issued on Tuesday, said Operation Project Return was conducted in conjunction with the Community Street Crime Unit and the North West Region Emergency Response Team.

The arrests were made in a single day in October, and charges included being unlawfully in a dwelling, assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer, assault, criminal harassment, failing to comply with a release order, possession for the purpose of trafficking, theft and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

Those taken into custody ranged in age from 22 to 58.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects whose case we do not expect to follow through to its conclusion in court.
