FORT FRANCES — A youth in Fort Frances is facing numerous charges after a recent run-in with provincial police.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Rainy River OPP made a traffic stop in the area of Third Street East.

Police determined the driver was impaired by alcohol. The youth was arrested and brought to the detachment for further testing.

The 17-year-old cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth has been charged with 12 related offences, including failing to surrender their licence, driving outside of the allowed parameters for their G1 permit, having open liquor and readily available liquor in the vehicle as well as consuming liquor under 19 years of age.

The accused was released from custody and has a future date with the Ontario court system.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off the road through enforcement and public education. If you suspect someone is driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
