Ontario SPCA and Humane Society transfers 32 northern cats

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society recently transferred 32 cats from the Second Chance Pet Network in Dryden to other locations in the province

More than 30 cats from Northern Ontario will be re-homed through a program administered by the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.

The organization on Thursday announced that 32 cats were transported from the Second Chance Pet Network in Dryden to other locations across the province.

“These are beautiful cats who just want a family to love them, but there are sadly more adoptable animals in many parts of Northern Canada than there are families to adopt,” said Arista Wogenstahl, the regional manager for northern outreach services said in a news release.

“By working together to move these cats to areas of the province where there are families waiting to adopt, it allows our animal partners in the North to assist more animals who need sheltering and care.”

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society said a lack of access to animal welfare services, including veterinarians and spay and neuter services, have contributed to an increase in the animal populations. The organization and its partners work with communities to deliver resources and support management strategies.

The total number of northern cats and dogs transferred this year is now 94.
