One dead after fatal highway crash near Kenora

The two-vehicle collision happened Wednesday on Highway 17 between Kenora and Vermilion Bay

A 69-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on highway 17 east of Kenora.

Provincial police said the collision, involving a passenger car and a tractor trailer unit, was reported just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday near Richard Lake Road, between Kenora and Vermilion Bay.

Police said a 69-year-old Kenora resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the transport was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police added.

Police said the investigation is continuing.

The highway was closed for several hours. It reopened early Thursday morning.
