Officer discharges less-lethal weapon during interaction

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an incident early Sunday morning in Onigaming First Nation.

ONIGAMING FIRST NATION – The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate following an investigation into an incident involving the discharge of a less-lethal weapon by a police officer in Onigaming First Nation.

In a release issued on Monday, the SIU report members of Treaty Three Police Service were called to the community just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, requesting assistance from the OPP’s emergency response team and canine unit.

During an interaction, one officer discharged a less-lethal device.

The OPP notified the SIU and as a result, will not be able to provide further information at this time.
