NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO -- The field is set for the municipal elections that will take place on Monday, Oct. 24 this year.
The nomination deadline closed at 2 p.m. on Friday. All that needs to happen is for the final lists to become official is for the clerks in each municipality to certify the candidates on Monday and then the race begins or positions are acclaimed.
For the first time in a generation, Dennis Brown will not be on the ballot in Atikokan as the long time mayor is not seeking reelection. The communities of Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances are also each getting a new mayor this fall, as Dan Raynard, Greg Wilson, and June Caul did not file to run. Mayors Kevin Kahoot in Ear Falls, Harold McQuaker in Emo, Deborah Ewald in Rainy River and Doug Lawrance in Sioux Lookout are running unopposed and will be acclaimed with the certification of their candidacies.
