IGNACE—Vince Ponka, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s (NWMO) regional communication manager has always been an advocate of finding unique but meaningful ways to continue to inform residents of Ignace about the long-term plan for used nuclear fuel.

Consequently, it is no surprise that NWMO is planning another event to encourage dialogue with residents about nuclear waste management.

Thursday, July 21, the Toronto Zoo and NWMO is partnering to present, “Bats-The Real Stars of the Night”, at the Ignace Learn More Center, between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Guest presenters will be Toby J. Thorne, Native Bat conservation program coordinator, Toronto Zoo and Crystal Cowie, First Nations conservation steward, Toronto Zoo.

The purpose of the evening’s presentations is to help everyone learn about the research being conducted by the Toronto Zoo and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, in the Ignace Area, and how this research will help inform biodiversity studies, contribute to the protection of the environment, and help address knowledge gaps in the ecology of bat species of Ontario.

Updates regarding upcoming community based informational events such as these, will be offered on their website: www.nwmo.ca
