KENORA, Ont. — The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Northwestern Health Unit's service area grew to 115 on Wednesday.
NWHU reported 23 new cases, including eight in the Red Lake health hub, seven in the Kenora health hub, and five in the Dryden health hub.
In the Kenora area, there are now 57 active cases.
The City of Kenora declared a state of emergency Tuesday because of the rising incidence of COVID-19, and said it was seeking provincial government support to deal with the situation.
The Dryden health hub currently has 19 cases, while Fort Frances has 13, Sioux Lookout has 10 and Red Lake has nine cases.
The Emo and Rainy River areas each has a few cases, while Atikokan has none.
NWHU data shows that six people in its catchment area are currently hospitalized with COVID-19.
In the neighbouring Thunder Bay District Health Unit, the active case count on Wednesday stood at 64.
Two people in the TBDHU service area are hospitalized with the virus.
