KENORA, Ont. — The Northwestern Health Unit says it now has 205 active high-risk COVID-19 cases in its service area.

That's down from Friday when there were 276 cases.

The great majority of the current cases involve residents of the Sioux Lookout Health Hub, where 156 people are diagnosed with the virus.

Several First Nations within that health hub have recently experienced significant outbreaks.

NWHU also reported Monday that the current seven-day positivity rate for COVID-19 tests is 24.3 per cent.

On Friday, the positivity rate was 23.6 per cent.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21 residents of the NWHU's service area have died after contracting COVID-19.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon last week recommended continued adherence to enhanced protective measures against the virus, saying the district had the highest COVID-19 rate in Ontario.
