DRYDEN – North West Region OPP ran an Easter Long Weekend traffic campaign from March 29 to April 1 with a focus on seatbelt compliance.

The campaign ran across the region, but out of the 1,200 traffic stops, the majority of the stops were in the Dryden and Ignace detachment area, the OPP said.

During the campaign, nearly 58 drivers and passengers were charged for failing to wear a seatbelt.

According to the OPP, drivers can face a fine between $240-$1,000 and two demerit points if they or any of their passengers under the age of 16 are not wearing a seatbelt or secured in a proper child car seat.

The OPP is reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts. It is the best chance of surviving a collision and reducing injuries.

Other charges that weekend include 718 speeding charges, four stunt driving charges, five distracted driving charges, and six impaired driving charges.

The OPP wishes to thank drivers who made safety a priority for themselves, their passengers and their fellow motorists by driving responsibly.
