North Stars edge Dryden in OT to open semifinal series

DRYDEN, Ont. -- Jamie Fuchs sent the semifinal opener between the Thunder Bay North Stars and the Dryden Ice Dogs to overtime, scoring with 20 seconds left in regulation. 

Liking the limelight, the mid-season acquisition also scored the overtime winner, beating Dryden's Eric Clark on Saturday night 6:31 into the extra period. The goal completed the North Stars comeback, delivering a 2-1 win in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Superior International Junior Hockey League semifinal. 

Landon Stromme, who earlier in the day was named the league's top forward, scored the lone goal for Dryden, the second seed in the postseason, the tally coming  at 11:26 of the first. 

Keenan Marks stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced to pick up the win for Thunder Bay, while Clark was good on 25 of 27 North Stars shot at the other end of the ice. 

Game 2 is slated for Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. EDT, with Game 3 scheduled for Tuesday night at Fort William Gardens, puck drop coming at 7:30 p.m.
