Aviation fans in Northwestern Ontario can look forward to the Norseman Festival, which starts Friday and runs through the weekend in Red Lake.
Duane Riddell, chair of the festival committee, is excited to offer a full festival after a partial one was held last year.
"[It's] nice to be able to do festivals again," he said. "Everybody’s looking forward to it.”
One of the highlights this year is having one of the world’s top aerobatic pilots perform at the airshow, he said.
Pete McLeod, who grew up in Red Lake, is a Red Bull Air Race pilot and competes in the series at venues around the globe.
Another highlight is having historic Harvard and Cornell airplanes from the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Manitoba as part of the festival, Riddell said.
Ontario’s Lt. Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell will be in attendance to open the festival.
Riddell said music is also a big part of the festival, with Friday having a country music focus, Saturday rock 'n' roll, and Sunday offering kid’s entertainment.
He said he is expecting about 3,000 people to attend the 30-year-old festival.
