NORTH CARIBOU LAKE — Police and local fire officials say no one was hurt in an early Sunday evening house fire in North Caribou Lake.

A spokesperson with Ontario Provincial Police and the community’s fire chief said the blaze was caused by an improperly disposed cigarette.

There was nothing suspicious about the fire, which started on a porch, the OPP said.

The fire happened around 5 p.m. on Sunday, North Caribou Lake fire chief Joseph Quequish said, adding that, as he understood it, three people were in the home and were able to get to safety.
