Ignace will have a new council, with none of the incumbents on the ballot re-elected.

IGNACE — There will be a completely new council in Ignace, with no incumbents returning to office.

Bill Gascon was elected mayor with 580 votes, unseating incumbent mayor Penny Lucas, who only received 135 votes.

Lucas was elected as a councillor in the 2018 election and later became mayor after Donald Cunningham stepped down from the position in 2020 citing online abuse.

Joining Gascon will be a new council consisting of Al Zimmer, John Taddeo, Kimberly Beigre, and Jodie Defeo.

None of the three incumbent council candidates secured enough votes to get re-elected this time.

In a Facebook post on Monday evening, Gascon wrote a message of thanks to his supporters.

"I want to thank all my supporters who voted and sent a strong message of change in the municipality. I look forward to working with our NEW council and moving Ignace in a positive direction," he wrote.

"Thank you again and I am looking forward to being your Mayor ! Trust and Transparency!"
