FORT FRANCES - The Fort Frances Fire Rescue Service reminds the public that the use of fireworks in the Town of Fort Frances is prohibited.
In a Facebook post on the Town of Fort Frances: Official page states that “Prohibited Fireworks” includes but is not limited to sky lanterns, celebration lanterns, wish lanterns, event lanterns, Chinese lanterns, sky candles, fire balloons or any other similar device.”
The reason flying lanterns are prohibited fireworks is because they use an open flame to make them float through the air. Thus, creating a possible risk of fire to the surrounding area if the lantern were to fall onto long patches of grass or the local buildings.
The Facebook post also reminds residents that there are stores within the community that have consumer fireworks for sale.
“However, these consumer fireworks cannot be used/discharged in the Town of Fort Frances,” the post said.
The Facebook post prompted some community members to voice their disgruntled opinions on not allowing fireworks on Canada Day.
Rick Peters wrote “Town of fort frances, Thanks for the tips ,) , me and my kids will be sure not to have any fun at all on July 1st!”
Brett Prymak commented “What a joke. Fire hazard right now when we are in the middle of a flood. But wait tell September when everything has a chance to dry up.”
Pam Williams is going to Emo Speedway where they will be hosting a fireworks display.
“Emo is having a lot of things going on at the fairgrounds and speedway. It starts at 2:00 with a greet and meet the drivers bbq, blow up castles, races, bike parade at intermission and fireworks after the races. We can’t wait,” Williams wrote.
Although, there will be no Firework in the town of Fort Frances this Canada Day, on Sept. 4 there is fireworks display set.
