SIOUX LOOKOUT — Airport security is getting tighter in Sioux Lookout.

A section of the Sioux Lookout Municipal Airport’s existing departure area will open as a secure hold room to accommodate passenger screening starting June 12.

With this update to the terminal officials say they aim to enhance security and passenger safety by screening passengers before they enter the hold room.

“In partnership with the airlines, these additional security measures are meant to ensure safe and efficient travel for all passengers,” said Ben Hancharuk, the airport’s manager.

In turn, the airport will also aim to improve boarding times and airline on-time performance.

The municipality, in a media release, stated that it advises passengers to check with the airlines to confirm check-in times alongside procedures and to be patient as the new check-in process is fine-tuned.
