Murder charge laid after a lengthy investigation into suspicious death

KENORA — Two years after the death of an individual at Wauzhushk Onigum Nation, police have laid a charge of second degree murder.

The case dates back to April 22, 2023, when OPP and Treaty Three Police responded to a call on Pow Wow Island Road to investigate a sudden death.

A 77-year-old man from Sioux Narrows Township was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, OPP announced the arrest of 45-year-old Ronald Stone from Wauzhushk Onigum Nation on a charge of second degree murder.

The charge has not been tested in court.

The accused is being held in custody pending a court appearance.

Police issued a statement expressing thanks to community members who provided information that assisted them in their investigation.
