DRYDEN — Ontario Provincial Police charged a southwestern Ontario man with stunt driving after tracking his vehicle at nearly 200 km/h in the Dryden area.

Police report the incident occurred Friday on a section of Highway 17 near Meadows Road where the speed limit is 90 km/h.

The 23-year-old resident of Kitchener was travelling at 198 km/h, or more than double the legal maximum.

In addition to stunt driving, he was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The man's licence was automatically suspended for 30 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

"Driving at such extreme speeds puts everyone at risk, including the driver, passengers and innocent road-users," OPP said in a posted statement. "Speeding isn't just reckless — it's criminal."
