RED LAKE, Ont. -- A five-goal outburst in the second period Saturday night propelled the streaking Red Lake Miners to a lopsided 8-1 home-ice win over the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Five different scorers – Brady Harroun, Noah Kramps, Ryan Hunger, Trenton Moisey and Ryan Howe – scored goals in a 13:45 span, breaking open a 2-1 game and winning for the eighth consecutive outing.

The Mimers last lost on Oct. 2 to Dryden, a 3-2 overtime affair.

It was the fourth straight loss for Thunder Bay (8-6-0), who slipped to third place in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings behind Red Lake and the Kam River Fighting Walleye (8-2-1), who edged Dryden 3-2 on Saturday night at home.

Nic Bolin and Kenyon Nyman staked Red Lake to a 2-0 lead in the first before Raj Sangha potted the North Stars lone goal of the game at the 14:25 mark of the opening period.

Hunter, with his second of the night and fifth of the season, had the lone goal in the third.

Conner Lemieux took the loss for Thunder Bay, making 47 saves on 55 shots against. Kiev Kineshanko was good on 21 of 22 shots he faced. Thunder Bay heads south next Friday for a date with the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.

Kam River 3, Dryden 2: At the Norwest Arena, Braeden Duchesne scored the winner with 1:44 to go in the second to lead the Fighting Walleye past the Ice Dogs for a second straight night. Tyler Ralph and Trenton Morriseau had the Fighting Walleye's other goals. Derek Koivisto and Jackson Jacques replied for Dryden (6-8-1). Next up for the Fighting Walleye is a visit next Friday to Fort Frances to take on the Lakers.

Wisconsin 5, Thief River Falls 3: Salvatore Poggiali and Brock Weimer had two goals apiece as Wisconsin (5-8-1) won its second straight. Chase Hapka, Jaden Rogen and Parker Sunderland scored for the Norskies (2-4-0), playing for just the sixth time this season because of player issues.
