FORT FRANCES — The Fort Frances Lakers are on the hunt for a new head coach.
The Superior International Junior Hockey League team, who were edged in seven games in their first-round quarterfinal series by the Thunder Bay North Stars, announced Tyler Miller has stepped down from the role, which he’s held since the start of the 2023-24 season.
He also helped create the Junior Lakers AAA program, featuring 10 youth teams in Fort Frances.
“Tyler’s passion for this organization and our community is evident to all those he has worked with, and his contributions have strengthened Fort Frances’ passion for hockey,” said Lakers board member, Mike Cuzzolino.
“We wish him and his family the best.”
Under Miller, the Lakers went 32-52-15 over two seasons.
The team, in a release issued on Thursday, said Miller made the decision to walk away in order to spend more time with those who matter most.
“It is time to be with my family and watch my kids play hockey,” Miller said, thanking the team and its staff for believing in him and helping him bring back the junior program.
“Thank you to the players for bringing back the culture and what it means to be a Laker. I am looking forward to supporting the Lakers and seeing the program continue to grow,” Miller said.
The team is expected to name its new coach in the coming weeks.
