KENORA — The Canadian Mental Health Association has marked May 1, to May 8, 2022, as Mental Health Week.
With 330 community locations, CMHA is a nationwide organization that promotes mental health and supports people recovering from mental illness. During the pandemic more and more Canadians suffered from anxiety, loneliness, and increased levels of stress. With that in mind, CMHA presented its theme for this year’s Mental Health Week.
This year’s theme is “Empathy” and it challenges each of us to look at ways that we can help those suffering from mental illness.
The Canadian Mental Health Association describes this theme as practicing the following:
- Listening to understand someone’s feelings
- When someone is struggling to tune in by looking in their eyes.
- Seeing the world as others do
- #Getready about how you can help
Many Canadians are returning to their favourite pre-pandemic activities, so the CMHA wants to provide helpful resources to assist with a healthy transition to these. It offers a resource toolkit prepared by the CMHA, to help promote mental well-being. It includes:
- Daily desktop backgrounds for each of the Five Ways to Well-Being.
- Resources suitable for in-house and waiting room screens.
- Medicine wheel images.
- Daily messages for each of the Five Ways to Well-Being.
